Believe it or not, this is a common question a lot of brides find themselves asking as they prep for their big day. As a makeup artist, it feels like a no brainer. Of course you should hire a professional MUA for your wedding day. But for some brides, it's just not that simple.

The cost
On average, wedding makeup costs 3 to 4 times more than normal event makeup. This is a factor that turns many brides off to the idea of hiring a professional. However, there are reasons for these added costs. Your bridal makeup might just be the most important makeup you ever wear. I'm not saying this to be dramatic. The greatest cost usually comes along with the infamous trial run.
What is the point? Well, it's actually pretty important. The trial run is a chance for you to see how your makeup will look before the big day. It also gives you the opportunity to edit your game plan with your makeup artist beforehand. The last thing you want is for your MUA to arrive on your wedding day and go at it blind. There are lots of things that could go wrong. At the trial, you're not just giving your MUA a test drive, you're also seeing how your makeup will wear throughout the day. This gives you and your MUA the information you need to edit your skin prep plan for the day-of.
I usually do my own makeup, and I like it.
Of course you like how you do your own makeup! But this is your wedding day. This is the day of all days.
Your wedding pictures will live on forever to bless every entry table in every family members' homes, and at least one wall in each room of your own house. This makeup will be staring back at you from its hundreds of eyes all over your home. Do you really want all of that responsibility to fall on you?
I'm here to tell you that you do not. Many brides fall victim to intense pressure on their big days. If it's not your mom yelling in your ear about something, its a caterer running late or a florist who didn't bring enough flowers for your centerpieces. The last thing you need to worry about is the literal most important thing (other than the man, of course): your face.
Let it go
Elsa said it best! Don't let that pressure fall on you. Book the makeup artist. The one you love. The one whose work you've stalked on Instagram since before you got engaged. Do the trial run, tinker away at your wedding day makeup plans until they're absolutely perfect. You only get married once, and those pictures really will live on forever. Your face is the focal point of this one monumentally important day in history. Sit back, relax, and let the professionals do it. You don't regret it.
Especially when you cuddle up to your kids on the couch in 10 years and show them the day their parents got married.
